Gaza: Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital threatens to be out of service due to fuel shortage

The world – Palestine

Hospital spokesperson Khalil Al-Dakran explained in a press conference: “Within two hours, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital will stop functioning due to exhaustion of the fuel necessary to operate the electrical generators”, which “threatens the death of patients”. and injured. »

Such a warning has already been repeated in hospitals in the Gaza Strip, several times since the start of the Israeli war against the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, and many hospitals have indeed stopped functioning due to fuel shortage, in the north of the Gaza Strip as well as in the south and center.

Al-Dakran added that in recent days they had made calls to urgently provide fuel to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, “but to no avail.”

He added that only three thousand liters of fuel arrived at the hospital yesterday Wednesday, stressing that it was “enough to run the hospital for less than 24 hours, while our daily needs are around five thousand liters fuel”.

Al-Dakran highlighted that Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah is the only hospital in the central governorate of the Gaza Strip that provides services to more than a million people who have been displaced there due to the war which has lasted for more than seven months.

It should be noted that the occupying forces launched an invasion of Rafah, in the far south of the Gaza Strip, on May 6, which caused the displacement of Palestinians from the city in reverse, and that the machine Israeli war has displaced them again, this time. towards the center, notably Deir al-Balah. The city of Rafah was home to 1.5 million Palestinians, including 1.4 million displaced people, after occupying forces ordered Palestinians to head to the far south, claiming it was “safe”, but hundreds of thousands of them were forced to leave. The last days.

The spokesperson for Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital said that its medical facility currently accommodates more than 600 patients and injured people, and also provides services to around 650 people suffering from kidney failure and in urgent need of ‘electricity.

It should be noted that the operation of dialysis machines requires energy, which can only be supplied by generators in the context of the severe siege imposed by the occupation on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Dakran stressed that the lack of fuel would completely disable the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, in addition to stopping ambulances and disabling four of its field hospitals. Al-Dakran therefore called on the international community and the United Nations to provide the fuel necessary to operate the electricity generators of this hospital, “before a catastrophe occurs”.
