The trial of US President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, opens Monday in federal court on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, in an unprecedented and risky legal development for his father’s Democratic election campaign. In The first trial of the son of a sitting presidentJury selection begins Monday in trial of US president’s son Hunter Joe Biden Accused of illegal possession of a firearm, while his father is running for a second term.

The start of his trial comes at a time when Donald’s historic conviction continues to reverberate Asset After undergoing a six-week trial in New York Criminal Court.

Federal prosecutors accuse Hunter of lying when he filled out a gun application in 2018, when he denied his addiction to drugs, specifically cocaine, which he later admitted.

Hunter Biden was charged with tax fraud in another case.

Hunter Biden, who was a lawyer and then a lobbyist, was addicted to alcohol and drugs before overcoming his addiction.

Even though Joe Biden has not spoken in detail about the legal issues facing his youngest son, he has always expressed his fatherly love for him.

But at the level of the Democratic Party, the news of this trial and the statements that Joe Biden could make to the press on this subject arouse no interest, occupying the headlines of the newspapers to replace the conviction of Republican President Donald Trump.

If Hunter Biden is convicted, he will be sentenced to a maximum of 25 years in prison. But in practice, few people convicted in similar cases have been incarcerated.

Hunter Biden only kept this gun for 11 days, before his girlfriend threw it in the trash.

“Addict” and “User”

Hunter Biden claims to have ended four years of addiction in 2019, that is, after purchasing the controversial gun.

However, he wrote in a 2018 firearm purchase form that he was not a drug addict, which is a contradiction to the essence of the accusation presented by the prosecution, which considered this a lie punishable by American law.

The defense refutes those accusations, saying Hunter Biden was not considered a drug addict when he filled out the form, and noting that the term was not explained to him.

Jurors will hear about the defendant’s drug use while prosecutors will recount the events that led him to buy the gun in Delaware.

The defense team insisted on narrow definitions of the terms “addict” and “user” and requested instructions requiring acquittal if the jury determined that the defendant did not consider himself to fit those definitions.

“The terms ‘user’ or ‘addict’ were neither defined nor explained to him on the form,” his lawyer, Abe Lowell, wrote in court documents.

According to the defense, “someone, like Mr. Biden, who had just completed an 11-day rehabilitation program … could certainly believe that he was not a current stress user or addict.”

Witnesses are expected to be called, including Hunter’s mistress, Hayley Biden, who is the widow of his brother Beau.

With a past marked by addiction and questionable deals abroad, Biden is one of the favorite targets of his father’s Republican opponents, starting with his predecessor, Donald Trump.

In Congress, Republican lawmakers have opened an impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden, accusing him of having used his influence while he was Barack Obama’s vice president (2009-2017) to allow his son Hunter to make business in China and Ukraine.

However, no evidence was provided in this regard and the courts did not bring any charges against him in this regard. Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff, a Biden ally, confirmed to CNN on Sunday that Americans must “fully respect” the jury’s verdict, whatever it may be.

He added: “And I think the president himself will respect the decision – as painful as it is, I’m sure, to see one of your children put on trial.”

The prosecution has three days to present its case. The non-televised trial is expected to last about two weeks.

Hunter Biden faces separate tax evasion charges in California in a case later this year.
