Yesterday, Tuesday, the Council of the General Union of Lawyers, headed by Abdel Halim Allam, president of the Union of Arab Lawyers, held a session to discuss registration controls in the Union file, and the Council concluded by publishing the following statement:

Yesterday, Tuesday June 25, 2024, at 4 p.m., at the headquarters of the General Order of Lawyers, the Council of the General Order of Lawyers held a session to discuss registration controls in the Order’s register.
The Council has examined all legal texts in this regard and all decisions rendered concerning registration, and in application of the provisions of the Law on the Legal Profession and its amendments, in particular article (143) and all related texts to this matter, as well as what was indicated in the Egyptian Constitution in the text of article (77).
– After revising the provisions of the Egyptian Constitution of 2014.
And the provisions of the Legal Profession Law No. 17 of 1983 and its amendments.
– The decisions of the Union Council issued concerning registration and its inclusion in the applicable Union annexes.
– For the sake of controlling schedules and promoting the legal profession.
And also to offer the opportunity to those who are qualified to register with the union.
Considering that more than fifty years have passed since the promulgation of the law on the profession of lawyer, and that the modifications which have been made to it have not responded to the ambitions of the profession, and that there are texts become unsuitable for action, and that there are also contradictory texts.
Decision of the Council of the Order
First: form a committee to prepare a new bill for the legal profession that meets the desires of lawyers and closes all gaps in the applicable law, provided that it is presented to all lawyers to share their opinions.
Registration conditions
1- The applicant obtains the registration file.
2- Conduct a personal interview with the candidate.
3- Successful completion of the medical examination.
4- A training certificate issued by a lawyer admitted to plead before the Court of Appeal or Cassation, provided that the lawyer issuing the certificate undertakes to train the applicant for the entire duration of his registration on the general roll.
5- Pay the prescribed fees as issued by decision of the council.
6- The file must be submitted by the applicant personally.
