Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, held a meeting this morning, at the government headquarters in the new administrative capital, with members of the Food Export Council and Food Industry Chambers, in the presence of Mr. Al-Quseir , Minister of Agriculture. and Land Reclamation, Engineer Ahmed Samir, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Engineer Hani Barzi, Chairman of the Food Industries Export Council, Ashraf Al-Sayed, Undersecretary of the Council of exports of food industries, Karim Baraka, undersecretary of the Export Council. for Food Industries, Rana Jamali, Vice-President of the Chamber of Food Industries, and Mahmoud Bazan, Vice-President of the Chamber of Food Industries.

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, confirmed that this meeting is part of periodic meetings held with the heads of the different export councils, each separately, with the aim of identifying their visions and proposals, to work towards the increase in Egyptian exports, particularly in light of recent measures taken by the State to… Measures which have clearly contributed to significantly improving the economic situation, stabilizing the foreign exchange market and accelerating the release of goods and production needs.

The Prime Minister highlighted that food industries are one of the very important sectors that have growth opportunities, stressing that the government is ready to provide all possible support to this sector, in order to achieve the objectives of the Egyptian state linked to maximizing exports.

During the meeting, Mr. Al-Quseir, Minister of Agriculture and Land Rehabilitation, reviewed efforts to develop Egyptian agricultural exports and increase their competitiveness, noting that an unprecedented result was obtained in exceptional global circumstances, such as the value of Egyptian agricultural exports. in 2023, they reached about $8.8 billion, including $3.7 billion for fresh exports and $5.1 billion for manufactured exports, and Egyptian exports ranked first worldwide for frozen oranges and strawberries.

In the same context, the Minister of Agriculture noted that Egypt managed to export more than 400 agricultural products to more than 160 countries around the world in 2023 and was able to access 93 new markets in the last 10 years.

Mr. Al-Quseir also confirmed that the food industries sector is one of the promising sectors, given that Egypt has great potential in the agricultural field, noting that the country, for the first time in its history, has exported 7.5 million tonnes of agricultural products. last year, and so if half of those quantities were manufactured, there would be a very high additive value.

The Minister of Agriculture also spoke of the promising opportunities in this context, emphasizing that the State continues to provide all the necessary support to this sector, indicating that agricultural industrialization has very broad opportunities at this stage.

Engineer Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry, explained that the food industries sector is one of the promising industrial sectors in which the State is working to increase its quality and competitiveness in global markets, highlighting the need to add value. sector, and emphasizing that the first four months of this year have achieved this goal, the sector’s export rates are the highest compared to previous periods.

At the beginning of his speech, Engineer Hani Barzi, Chairman of the Food Industries Export Council, welcomed the visits made by the Prime Minister to various factories, stressing that they constitute an important boost and great support for the industrial sector and the private sector in general.

Engineer Hani Barzi also reviewed the exports and targets of the food industries during the period 2024-2026, explaining that total exports for the first quarter of 2024 amounted to $1.6 billion, representing a growth rate of 31% compared to exports of the same period in 2023. which amounted to 1.2 billion dollars.

Barzi discussed the Council’s vision for the development of food exports 2024-2026, which included setting clear targets for the development of the industrial sector and increasing the volume of Egyptian exports at a rate between 15 and 20 percent and the contribution to reducing the import bill. the Egyptian state, in addition to working to consolidate trade relations and economic conditions in neighboring countries.

Regarding the development of the export support system, the Chairman of the Food Industries Export Council examined the Council’s proposals in this context, including the proposal to maintain the current export development program while adding a component special to stimulate exporting companies and support their efforts. in promoting Egyptian products in foreign markets, and stressing the speed of payment of export support so that exporters can benefit from it.

Concerning the measures necessary to help overcome the obstacles facing this sector, it was proposed to set indicative prices for food exports, particularly for manufactured food products, and to launch a marketing campaign for food products, in addition to importance of choosing priority products. such as frozen strawberries, processed olives and other products of agricultural origin.

In the same context, engineer Hani Barzi highlighted the importance of providing stable shipping lines at competitive prices, especially for the African continent. The importance of land transport was also highlighted, the importance of speeding up inspection and customs clearance procedures and increasing participation. in specialized international exhibitions.

The Chairman of the Food Export Council also reviewed the Council’s vision to deepen the local component by proposing new mechanisms aimed at attracting more foreign investments and helping to open new horizons for different types of food industries. countries and for various international companies, such as financing programs. reduced interest rates were proposed to help exporting factories increase industrial investment and productivity, and to provide a package of tax exemption incentives for exporting companies.

During the meeting, members of the Export Council and the Chamber of Food Industries presented a number of challenges they face in order to increase exports. The Prime Minister immediately communicated with the relevant ministers in this regard, and he was also quickly instructed to hold a meeting. in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Health and the National Food Safety Authority, with the aim of accelerating the inspection of exports of these products, which contributes to increasing exports.
