Launch of training course to improve technical capabilities

The Ministry of Environment, in cooperation with the Regional Training and Technology Transfer Center for Arab Countries affiliated to the Basel Convention and the National Research Center, is organizing a training course to strengthen national technical capacities related to requirements of the Global Persistent Organic Pollutants Monitoring Project under the title “Discussions on laboratory capabilities and data interpretation for monitoring emissions and releases of persistent organic materials into the environment”.

The course will take place tomorrow, with the participation of 17 trainees from various institutions and organizations concerned with this subject, such as the General Authority for Exports and Imports, the Department of Chemistry, the Central Laboratory of the Environment Agency and laboratories affiliated with the regional branches of the Environmental Affairs Agency in the governorates of Suez, Assiut, Aswan, Alexandria, West, East and Red Sea. Activities will continue until June 6, 2024, the course will take place in the training room of the Environmental Affairs Agency. National Research Center in Dokki.

In a related context, Dr. Mustafa Hussein, professor at the Faculty of Sciences of Cairo University and director of the Center for Training and Technology Transfer to Arab Countries affiliated to the Basel Convention, said that the objective The main objective of this course is to strengthen the knowledge and capabilities of participants in the area of ​​analysis and management of persistent organic pollutants and other chemicals, in addition to general scientific laboratory expertise, focused on pollutants persistent organics and writing laboratory reports.

It should be noted that this session is a continuation of the global monitoring activities for persistent organic pollutants, which operate under the auspices of the United Nations Environment and the Stockholm Convention and are financed by the Fund for global environment (GEF).

The Regional Center for Training and Technology Transfer to Arab Countries, affiliated to the Basel Convention, wishes to cooperate with civil society organizations working in the field of environmental protection and acts in accordance with the State Plan Egyptian 2030.

The center also offers projects, consultations, efficiency improvements, workshops and training, in addition to working in the areas of waste recycling other than nuclear waste.

The director of the Regional Center for Training and Technology Transfer to Arab Countries said that Egypt is the leading country in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals since 2014 in power plants such as the Benban power plant and in improving the efficiency of infrastructure, as happened during the presidential election. the Decent Life initiative and start building on the green economy, and this was before the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change.
